Combining Diifferent Styles Of Dining Furniture For A Great Dining Room

Ensuring you choose the right dining table & matching dining furniture can be challenging. Before you start shopping for dining tables, dining chairs & dining furniture you will need to decide on a few of the most important aspects.

Getting a dining table, dining chairs & even a sideboard in the same style & colour is how most people choose their dining room furniture but there is a new trend, especially in contemporary dining furniture to combine styles & colours. A dining table in one style & chairs in a totally different style can often prove an intriguing alternative, as an example a heavy wooden farm-house style table with brightly coloured plastic chairs with polished steel legs not only looks really good in a kitchen, it is also family proof.

Or if you do get a dining table & chairs in the same style you could perhaps add another contrasting element into the room, perhaps an antique display cabinet for your glasses. Tie the two in together with an old wall mirror or silver candelabra on the table & you have a beautifully blended dining space, as long as you keep the colours consistant.

Although it can be a brilliant idea, combining new with antique furniture can be tricky to make work well if you don't have the right type of home. You will need to thoroughly assess the room the furniture is going in first. How high is the ceiling? What about the floor, could it go well with both modern & classic? Do you have period features in the room, like coving, a ceiling rose or old skirting boards? What type of windows & window frames do you have, & what are the window treatments?

If you live in a modern flat or recently built property with small proportions & no period features adding antiques into the mix could well be impossible, & its probably best you stay away from the antiques altogether & go for all modern, or contemporary mixed with fairly conservative pieces & some cosy, personal pieces like photo’s if you don't want a too relentlessly modern dining room. You may have your heart set on that beautiful antique chandelier, but if you have low modern ceilings it's just not going to look right.

But it's the extra touches in a dining space that really make a difference, bringing different elements in together, & adding some contrast & interest to matching dining sets. Finishing touches for the dining room can include wall mirrors, which can bring light & space to a room, art work - an interesting piece of art can provide a talking point, glass bowls filled with fresh fruit, & some mood lighting, perhaps a nice floor lamp. If you haven’t got a lot to spend & haven't been able to splash out on your dining table & chairs a really good accessory, for instance a Murano glass bowl or a designer wall mirror can really lift the room.

However you choose to combine styles make sure you have some personal touches in there, a sterile room straight out of a magazine is never a nice place to relax with friends over a good meal.
