Comedy Films In Bollywood
Some of 2009's highest grossing films - 'Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani', 'All the Best: Fun Begins' and 'De Dhana Dhan'- belonged to the comedy genre. Some of the newest Bollywood movies of the comedy genre released in 2010 like 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai' and 'Housefull' were loved by the public. New Hindi films are experimenting various genres of comedy. Comedy films are divided into various types or genres such as physical comedy, spoof, blue comedy, deadpan comedy and black comedy. One instance of a latest black comedy is Zoya Akhtar's 'Luck by Chance', with Farhan Akhtar. It tells the story of an upcoming actor and his efforts to become a star in the film industry. Critically acclaimed film 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!' starring Abhay Deol is another film. 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron', starring Om Puri and Satish Shah is another black comedy film liked by many. 'Dostana' and 'Masti' are blue comedies which are entendre-ridden. Comedy films like these made references to homosexuality and gay culture, which were met with applause as well as criticism. People who appreciated the handling of homosexuality in Hindi movies said that Indians must be more open towards these ideas. Critics think that depiction of the gay community in Hindi films is derogative and cause more harm than proving helpful. From celebrated movies such as 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi', 'Padosan' and 'Angoor' to slapstick comedy 'Andaaz Apna Apna' and other films such as 'Hera Pheri', comedy movies will always stay popular with the Indian film viewers.
