And who has the time to deal with that sort of thing anyway? There is enough to do during the average work week that anything extra, especially drama of this sort, is just unnecessary and puts a real strain on getting the important things done. So when you let a problem escalate due to poor communication, you waste time and you waste money. You can even burn bridges and ruin relationships with suppliers and vendors.

And when the name of the game is efficiency and getting the job done with less waste and in a faster manner, these kinds of mishaps throw a monkey wrench into the entire process. It could be that individuals are just not comfortable with being open and honest with each other, but it can be done in a way that neither offends another person nor calls into question their ability to do their job. But if the culture of the organization is to degrade and humiliate, then brutal honesty is used for another purpose altogether.

But this type of honesty and openness is not just to point out people’s shortcoming or point out what they are doing wrong. This type of communication should be used on yourself. That’s right. Individuals do not like to admit when they do not understand something or are not getting something. But if you wait too long to ask the questions, it will become a bigger problem.
