Communicating Through Web Conferencing

How effective is it to travel to your counterparts' office three states over every time you need to have a meeting?

In the past this question could be answered with two words, "very effective." All you had to do was book your flight, book your hotel, book your car, arrange for someone to cover your job for the day, get someone to pick up your kids from school, and the list goes on. You fly to Boston to give your presentation that takes an hour to your counterpart and grab some lunch and wait at the airport for your flight to be canceled. What do you do?

That is why they created web conferencing. Web conferencing applications allow people to meet online, enabling collaboration between dispersed teams. Using web conferencing groups can potentially see, hear, text chat, present, and share information in a collaborative manner. Whether or not you have previous experience with web conferencing and no matter what field you are in, eventually you will web conference and it may be sooner than you think.

In the scenario above you will not have the hassles of booking a flight, booking your hotel, booking your car and spending time away from your family if you integrate web conferencing.

Being the Director of Information Technology at Miami Jacobs Career College, I live up to a certain set of standards. These standards and regulations are based on accreditation. With those rules and regulations in mind I designed a new curriculum for MOUS certification. The college has had same program for several years and it has worked well until now. The certifications are changing and students need different certifications to be employable. Rather than having my students transfer to another college I decided to take my ideas to the accreditation board and present them. Not only will this help my students succeed in the work force but it will also increase enrollments at the college. I realize that with these changes will come resistance but that is a normal factor of every day life and I am willing to work with those individuals to over come the resistance.

In different times of my life I've been hesitant to change my self, taking pleasure in the moment, not wanting it to end. But eventually all good things must come to an end and we must begin a new phase. I've learned through the years that letting go and trusting that the change will be exhilarating, vibrant and full of new challenges, offers me a new way to look at life. Haw said, "Sometimes, Hem, things change and they are never the same again. This looks like one of those times. That's life! Life moves on. And so should we." Johnson, Spencer.
