Upper end laptops are the notebook computers are what you usually see mentioned when you read laptop comparisons, or laptop computer reviews. You rarely read new notebook computer reviews that cover very many entry level or bare bones laptops. It is most likely due to the fact that they did those laptop ratings last year, when these were considered the upper end laptops.

The bare bones laptop computer comes with hardware that really isn't being produced anymore. However, that doesn't mean that these computers are obsolete. On the contrary, these types of laptops sometimes are better equipped than the newer models.

If you need more robust computing power in a top quality laptop, you would probably be better off with a notebook designed with your specific needs in mind. The processor in the best quality laptop doesn't come cheap. These would include Core 2 Duo T9xxx, a Core 2 Duo Extreme, or a Core 2 Quad processor. The T9xxx processors are the top family that you will find in most laptops. The very top computers commonly have Core 2 Duo Extreme and Core 2 Quad processors installed, you will find these are usually in "gaming” laptops.

The best quality laptop appears in many places. If you shop for a gaming laptop you will get what I have called an upper end laptop with a top end sound card added on.

If you shop for a top end desktop replacement you will get what I consider to be an upper end laptop with a sound card and speakers. Both of these will probably have a 1920X1200 display, 17 inches or larger. The Apple Mac Book Pro is probably the finest of these larger display laptops. A bit pricier, but well worth every penny. Additionally, you can choose a matte or glossy display screen.

Your desktop replacement is most likely to have a bluray player installed. The other consideration of an upper end computer would be for graphical applications. If you are intensively editing photographs or video, you may need the combination of memory, processor speed, and graphics engine speed that you get with these machines. Again, the Apple computer laptop is in this category.

People confuse the best quality laptop with the fastest, most powerful notebook computer. There are little or no quality differences between laptop computers with the same components from different manufacturers.

Apple computer laptops does slightly better in quality surveys and measures, but that may be due to the market Apple has always targeted.

You still need to remember that no matter what you buy, the chip manufacturers and the computer manufacturers will tell you it is obsolete in 3 to 5 years maximum. They can't sell you a new laptop computer if you have a perfectly functional one already, now can they?
