The competition in the online advertising world has never been higher than it is today. The real competition is not between the website owners or people advertising their products, it is between major advertising companies and ad serving companies that are trying to get more customers than their competitor companies are getting.

Both Microsoft and Google have recently purchasing top ranking online ad serving companies and have now taken control of them. Google was the first one to make a giant purchase and then soon after Microsoft followed them by making a huge purchase of their own in an ad serving company. There are a few ad servers that are big enough and have built up enough support and business connections to be able to compete with Google and Microsoft at the top of the ad serving chain. After those few companies though, there are very few companies even close to being able to be competitive at the top and many smaller companies have been failing due to people using the bigger, better known companies with more resources to offer customers more.

This does not mean that if an ad server is not run by a multimillion dollar company that it is no good and won’t be able to survive, all it means is that the power has gone to the people who already possessed some of the most power on the internet and in computers today.

For smaller, middle sized and even larger ad serving companies that do not have the tools nor resources to compete with the likes of Google and Microsoft, there are alternative ways to remain competitive with them even having less tool than they do. For the large companies who think they may be out of the running of being on top, they can merge their companies with ad management companies to create one very strong ad serving company with high quality skills and service.

There is still the problem of ad serving companies not being able to improve what they have to offer because they cannot find enough investors. Most people are not going to invest on the smaller companies because so many of them fail and it is too much of a risk to take when there are plenty of safer investment opportunities right around the corner with the biggest companies in the business.

They also have the ability to offer certain services for free or at very low costs compared to competitors prices because they have so much money and resources to use that other companies just have no realistic way of matching.

Most ad server users would prefer to use companies that are run by Google for advertising because they already use several of their ad services like the ones mentioned above. It would make everything more convenient for the user and the best part for them would be that it would come at little or no cost.

Due to the companies and programs that Google has either bought or created and developed in the past, they have put themselves in position to be the front runner in ad server companies and only errors on their end will be able to remove themselves from the top spot.

How Smaller Companies Can Compete
Following in the footsteps of the top ad servers in the industry is a good thing for smaller companies to do. You may be thinking that it is not realistic for smaller companies to be able to do what these massive companies do but it is very possible for them to do it. They need to merge with other companies or ad positions in their companies to be able to attack advertising from all angles like the larger companies do and have done. The more advertising resources you have, the more competitive you will be in your industry.

It shows how the larger companies like Google and Microsoft have the ability to take control and seize power whenever a new big advertising or media operation is released to the public and useful for people to use.
