Computer Simulations
As mentioned, there are a lot of different ways that computer simulations can be used. And depending on how high quality the system is, it could really prepare you for certain situations. For example, computer simulations are used a lot when training pilots how to fly. Using computer simulations for learning how to fly is not intended to replace learning on the real aircraft. Rather, it gets you acquainted with flying the real thing before you step foot in it. That way, when you board an expensive machine such as an F-16, you will be less likely to make costly mistakes. The money that is put into the flight computer simulations, therefore, is justified because those military planes can be quite expensive. Another way to use computer simulations is to use it to help you learn how to fight. The computer simulations are enhanced by putting electrode pads on your body. You view a screen and fight with an imaginary opponent. The computer can then score you and make critiques about your form. Those are just two of the many examples where computer simulations can be used. Other uses include computer simulations for people learning how to target shoot and simulations that help you learn how to do your job better such as working in a call center or at a bank. Computer simulations do have a purpose, but like so many things that start off as having a more noble purpose, the entertainment industry has borrowed them. Granted, a lot of the computer simulations programs are classified because of they were to be available to everybody, then valuable military secrets could end up in the wrong hands. But, the gaming industry has plenty of flight simulation games, fighting games, etc on the market. Interesting how a technology such as computer simulations that has so much value in industry, military, and government can rapidly change to something that is purely for entertainment.
