Conditioning Training For Lacrosse Clubs
There are tons of different ways that you can help get the lacrosse clubs that you coach for get in shape so that they can compete at a top level. One of the first steps to taking your young people and getting them in shape for lacrosse is to use distance running. Design a plan to help the kids on your team get up to running distances of three to five miles on a regular basis. Three to five miles is the distance that most lacrosse players run in a single game, so this is why getting used to running this distance regularly is such a good starting point for conditioning training. Many coaches from different lacrosse clubs across the country use a special type of training called interval training to help condition their young athletes. Simply put, interval training is when you alternate between working and resting for a set amount of time. One of the most basic types of interval training that is used in lacrosse is to alternate between sprinting and jogging. During interval training you might have each member of your team jog for twenty to thirty seconds and then sprint for ten to fifteen seconds and then repeat this pattern for a certain amount of intervals. Much of the running that occurs in the game of lacrosse occurs in bursts. This type of interval training will help your team to be able to recover quickly from explosive bursts of sprinting. Coaches for lacrosse clubs often times take basic principles from interval training and tailor those principles and methods to their own teams and situations. Make sure to mix up your conditioning training with some fun drills to break up the monotony of conditioning and to give your players a good rest from the rigors of conditioning without wasting any of your practice time.
