Conquer Anxiety With These 5 Simple Changes In Your Diet
Anxiety for most people actually is a warning sign that make your body aware of dangerous or problematic situations so that you can either try to avoid it all together or make whatever changes need to be made to eliminate the problem at hand. It is what psychologist call the "fight or flight" response. When your body feels that a situation in the present or in the future is going to have a negative effect on you. It will either prepare to run or protect itself. This can be beneficial as it helps you get a handle of all the demands and stresses of everyday life. Such as giving you the extra boost to study for the test the next morning, remain focused on an upcoming important project for work, or you may actually avoid a potentially physically dangerous situation by getting an uneasy feeling about going to a bad part of town etc. So as you can see it is not really anxiety that is the problem it is the how severe the anxiety can become for some people. For about 5% of the population anxiety can become so serious that it begins to disrupt their quality of life. It becomes an excessive, unreasonable and unhealthy dread of normal everyday situations. Fortunately research has brought about improved therapies to help the majority of people suffering from anxiety disorder so that they can go back to leading healthy, happy, and more productive lives. Studies have also shown that while a change in diet cannot competely cure severe anxiety disorder it can especially in addition to the therapies previously mentioned benefit someone who is experiencing severe anxiety. If you are experiencing anxiety in your life try some of the changes in diet that are listed below. 1. Make sure to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Often times our bodies will become dehydrated which in turn leads to headaches, added stress, and fatigue. 2. Make sure to take a multivitamin preferably one with both niacin and riboflavin in it daily. Here are some of the ways but not all that a multivitamin will help reduce your stress. (a) Vitamin C not only enhances your immune system it helps convert L-Tyrosine into dopamine. Then along with B6, and ascorbic acid changes the dopamine into nor epinephrine. This neurotransmitter and serotonin have been shown to relate directly to the control of both anxiety and depression. (b) Niacin helps reduce stress as well in the body by controlling the release of blood sugar, helping to ease the release of energy from carbohydrates, and by improving the blood flow throughout the body which during times of stress is significantly inhibited. (c) Riboflavin during stressful situations helps convert B vitamins into more beneficial forms while simultaneously giving a boost to your immune system which is often weakened during times of stress. 3. Avoid caffeine not only in coffee but in your soda's as well. It is well known that caffeine can amplify the symptoms of anxiety. 4. Avoid alcohol as much as you may want to have a drink to soothe your nerves it can often times make the situation worse as it is a depressant that can make you feel listless and even more anxious. 5. Eat complex carbs such as whole wheat bread, peas, potatoes, brown rice, as well as pasta. These foods can serve as a mild relaxant that helps soothe your anxiety by increasing the amount of serotonin which is a calming neurotransmitter within your brain. While you cannot eliminate the pressures and stresses that you may encounter on a daily basis. You can reduce and manage your anxiety more effectively by consciously trying to consume the vitamins, water, and foods that reduce anxiety on a daily basis. While at the same time avoiding those that enhance the symptoms of anxiety. Give it a try you will be amazed of what a slight change in your diet can do.
