One of so many impressive things for me is the routine of some talented people who have the ability to entertain others in a public place. They are the street buskers. I admire their totality when they perform their stunt, including their unique costume, great stunt and interesting instruments. These street buskers had left an exotic impression in my mind. It made me curious with the story behind their costume.
I believe that everything (and everyone) has the stories. When I kept an eye on these amazing Sydney’s street buskers, I was keen on discovering more information about their daily routine in and off their “costume.” Most of the time, I traveled along with them. Even if they had to live nomadically (ride and live in a car), I would stick with them and try to get the picture of their life.
At that time, many people asked me why I captured their picture of life and what made it so special. I knew why they asked me such question; it was hard for them to see the uniqueness of their surrounding, and this street busker’s performance was just something ordinary for them. Furthermore, perhaps it was out of their impression and sensibility radar due to their “interest.”
Finally, that question motivated me to find more information about their life and all of its uniqueness. Evidently, after I finished and packed my artwork through an exhibition in a gallery, many people were amazed and curious with the other side of these street buskers’ life that was captured through my lens. The people, who had asked me “why” and not been attracted to the performance, finally became enthusiastic in embracing the street buskers’ story and interested in their performance.
A piece of story with these street buskers becomes a memoir as to bear witness of my “faith”, the moment and nuance of a happening is very important. In photography, nuance of a happening is important, for there is no moment will happen twice though we have tried to make it happens through a reconstruction. We do not need a high and fabulous technique. If we have mastered the basic technique of photography, the next step to take is to stimulate our sensibility, point of view and way of thinking, to be finally sensible of every moment and its nuance. Furthermore, our technique will be automatically improved when we practice more and more on capturing moments and enjoy the process in enthusiasm and sincerity.
