Consumers Should Compare Credit Cards For Rewards

By Ryan Fields
November 8th, 2010

Shoppers looking to compare credit cards are being offered new rewards offers this holiday season.

Many issuers are offering fuel discounts, airline miles, clothing, gift certificates and cash back that can add money to consumer bank accounts.

Discover Card is one issuer offering cash back on purchases. Holders of its Discover More, Open Road and Motiva credit cards can earn 2 percent on online shopping, compared with 1 percent in the store.

"You're seeing a lot of very good rewards cards rolling out right now," Tim Chen, CEO of NerdWallet, told The Christian Science Monitor.

The promotion is limited to $1,000 in purchases; however, this could add up to an extra $10 in rebates to savvy shoppers. Recently, companies such as Target, Toys R Us and Kroger Supermarkets have all come out with similar rewards cards.

Consumers who compare credit card offers are likely to get the best deals, as issuers are offering big incentives for enlisting, according to the news source.

Discover and Chase are offering $100 to new customers who agree to spend a certain amount within the first 90 days of opening an account.
