Could You You Really Prevent Pregnancy Stretch Marks?

A pregnancy can be very demanding on both your body and your emotional life. If its your first pregnancy then the entire experience can be very scary and for many women the unknown factors is what really gets to them. There are certain aspects of a pregnancy that many women fear and one of them is most certainly how your body will recover after the 9 months. Regardless of who you are and how fit and healthy you are, you will gain weight and your body will change during and after your pregnancy.

Stretch marks is one of those effects of a pregnancy that can quite literally leave you scarred. Its something that affects all women during their pregnancy and to a more or lesser degree is can be something that stays with you forever.

When you are pregnant your body and especially your abdominal area increases in size. Your skin has to stretch and often times when it stretches past its "limit" it starts tearing and its these little tears that form the scars we know more commonly as stretch marks. The real question is can it be prevented and if so, how?

There are a number of theories about the prevention of stretch marks and there are many home cures and commercial products. Although it can't be prevented 100%, you most certainly can do a lot to reduce it. Various creams can help your skin to stay more elastic and when it stretches like that it can help reduce theses little "tears" from forming.

Following a rigorous routine during your pregnancy can go a long way in reducing the chances of these marks appearing but you cannot always stop it completely. It also depends heavily on your skin type and on your pregnancy. Women who are expecting twins almost always have a much higher risk just because of the additional strain on the skin itself.

As a rule of thumb, prevention is always better than cure and doing whatever you can during your pregnancy is the real secret.
