Craigslist Job List To The Rescue, As The Newspaper Industry Declines

The Craigslist job list is connecting employers and employees quickly, each and every day. Years ago, when searching for jobs, an individual would count the days until the Sunday newspaper came out. Then, with pen in hand, he or she would scour the job listings, circling anything of interest. The next time-consuming phase involved following through on an employer request, which could include mailing in a resume, calling the business or picking up an application. All of these steps took up valuable time, for those who were in desperate need of income and work.

Today, if you were to look in the help wanted section of the local newspaper, you would notice that the amount of classifieds in general is diminishing, not just job listings. That is because employers and other businesses are finding it much more cost effective to advertise employment opportunities through online classified sites such as the Craigslist job list. Craigslist's potential stretches beyond businesses filling employment positions. Car dealerships are listing vehicles for sale, real estate agents and property management companies are also posting property and rentals, and the list goes on and on.

Because companies are using the Craigslist job list to post employment opportunities, this is good news for you, if you are actively seeking to find companies who are hiring. Not only can you find detailed listings in many career fields, in your exact town or area of the country, if you've been considering relocating across the country, you can view jobs being advertised in the city you are dreaming and hoping to move to as well. Also, unlike newspaper want ads which were very limited in information provided, due to the cost of ad placement for larger ads, you can now learn a lot more about a company you are interested in applying to, because they can post limitless amounts of information about the job. Finally, Craigslist jobs allow a company to post instantly, any day of the week. This means no more waiting for Sundays to come, for a large listing of job opportunities. You can check Craigslist throughout the day, any day of the week, and jump on an employment opportunity very quickly.

The Craigslist job list isn't good news for the newspaper industries that used to rely heavily on revenue from classified ads. With reader subscription down due to the rise of online news sources, in addition to losing ad revenue as businesses shift to online marketing and advertising, it is no wonder newspapers are in decline. Nationwide online classified ads, such as Craigslist, are a very fortunate resource for those actively job searching, because local newspapers aren't a thorough sample of employment opportunities anymore. But for other companies that made a profit from advertising, it is hurting their business tremendously.

A word of warning to those seeking employment through the Craigslist job list. As is typical with the growth of online opportunities, as with the good there also comes risk of the bad. There are scammers and predators all too happy to prey on those who are vulnerable and needing employment. Be sure to be on the lookout for things that sound too good to be true. This was something that wasn't much of a risk when newspapers were the only source of listing jobs years ago. The cost of advertising was too high, which deterred those who were out to take advantage. But the job list on Craigslist, as well as other categories on the site, entice a scammer because they can post for free - so use extreme caution when job hunting.
