Creative Marketing For Small Businesses

Likely because it has made advertising so inexpensive, the Internet has vastly increased the amount of advertising to which people are exposed. For those starting up a small business, this means that standing out among the crowd is harder than ever. In fact, an advertiser has to be very savvy to even get a customer to look at their sales materials. Given the amount of flashing, talking and otherwise-distracting ads found on any given webpage, a bit of creativity is in order where advertising is concerned. Offering clients something valuable is oftentimes the best solution.

Podcasting is one of the most powerful advertising mediums on the Internet. This allows users to share audio files with one another over several different technologies. If one can come up with a good podcast that ties in with their products, they’re in a good position to increase the effectiveness of their marketing. The key is to not pitch too hard and to concentrate on making something remarkable. Savvy podcasters who have a vested interest can create a show worth listening to that manages to pitch their product at the same time, often through very subtle means.

Podcasts are essentially radio shows. As anyone with a radio knows, this is a powerful format for talk shows. If one happens to be pitching a line of products, featuring a podcast where experts in related fields are invited to the show to discuss their knowledge and experience is a valuable service to one’s customers. These podcasts cost almost nothing to produce. There’s a bit of a learning curve where mastering audio is concerned but digital technology has made this easier than it has ever been. One can even add in live features such as instant messenger questions or emailed questions to spice up the show a bit.

A podcast can be integrated into one’s other efforts and this is where the power of the Internet as a marketing tool begins to really shine. One could, for instance, include a download link for their podcast on their blog. One could author a corresponding article that summarizes the podcast and which could be interesting on its own. The customers who listen to the podcast will come away feeling as if they’ve had their time respected by the businessperson. For making sales, there are few better positions. Having been offered something of value for free, customers will more likely buy.
