Cruise Ship Jobs In Entertainment

Working on a cruise ship is a great way to see the world and get paid for it at the same time. One area that’s perhaps the most fun to work in is entertainment. Every body want to join this type of job. Some of these jobs require prior experience while others are entry-level positions, suitable for those even without any experience. Here’s a list of job positions in these fields.

Cruise director
The cruise director is one of the top positions aboard a ship. It usually requires previous experience as a cruise director. Basically, this person is responsible for overseeing all of the ship’s entertainment (i.e. Broadway shows, comedy nights, live concerts). This is really a very difficult task. The cruise director also manages the entire entertainment staff on board. It’s not an easy position, but well worth it if you enjoy managing people and working with all types of different people. There is also lots of interaction with the passengers.

Assistant cruise director
The assistant cruise director is the cruise director’s right hand person. Like the cruise director’s position, this person should have some experience either working on a cruise ship or in the entertainment industry, as well as past supervisory history. The assistant cruise director also heavily interacts with passengers on board and other entertainment staff.

Entertainers
These staff positions are suitable for those who have experience entertaining, whether as a musician, singer, dancer, magician, comedian or D.J. These people should be very outgoing and be able to get the crowds coming back night after night. You’ll need to provide a demo of your work.

Casino manager
Most ships have casinos, which are managed by a full-time casino manager. These managers must have previous experience within the casino industry. This person is responsible for managing the casino staff and handling all of the monetary responsibilities.

Other casino staff
Besides the casino manager, cruise lines hire line staff such as the casino dealers, slot mechanics and cashiers. The amount of experience required depends upon the exact position.

General cruise staff within the entertainment division
The bulk of the positions fall within this category. These positions don’t usually require any significant experience working on a cruise line. These positions, however, are only suitable for energetic, fun-loving, sociable people. They will need to interact with passengers at all times and will need to motivate and interest people in attending the ship’s different entertainment venues.
