Cruising The Baltic Sea

When you think of a cruise holiday, the natural inclination is to think of the Caribbean or the Mediterranean but what about a Baltic cruise? Admittedly if you want a cruise full of just sunshine then maybe a Baltic cruise is not for you. But if it’s not just about an expensive way of getting a sun tan, a Baltic cruise has a lot to offer. The first thing you might notice on a Baltic cruise is that most of the time you will be able to see land. This is a good thing though because the view can change dramatically day by day as you cruise along the dynamic Baltic coastlines.

Baltic cruises allow you to often see sights not visible from the land such as huge mist shrouded fjords and beautiful waterfalls. You will also get to see places with great history and lots of architecture and even wildlife. Some of the destinations you might stop at on a Baltic cruise are:

ST Petersburg is extremely rich in cultural heritage. The Russian city hosts a wealth of architecture that is very representative of imperial Russia. Sightseeing in St Petersburg will no doubt show you things like St Isaac’s Cathedral, Yusupov Palace and the Hermitage museum.

Helsinki is the capital of Finland. The city boasts a wealth of simply astounding architecture including some 19th century buildings that surround the market square at the heart of the city. These 19th century buildings are some of the few that remain having survived the World War 2 devastation.

Tallinn is another destination you are likely to stop at on your cruise. The Estonian stop on your trip will offer plenty to see such as the 13th century Raekoda that is Europe’s oldest town hall. There is also the Baroque Toompea Castle that is the home of the Estonian Parliament. If you look for them, as well as the modern city there are many old winding cobbled lanes and buildings that even date back to the middle ages. Tallinn is one of the oldest cities on the Baltic Sea. It’s not hard to see why this is one of the most attractive cities in Europe.

So if you want a cruise that is slightly different, why not try a Baltic cruise!
