Crystal Chandelier Maintenance: How To Preserve Its Beauty
A crystal chandelier is a fine addition to every home. Whether in the dining area, the entrance hall, or out in your front door -- this lighting fixture never fails to give your home a luxurious and elegant aura that everyone will surely love.
But as with any beautiful and elegant fixtures, it is very important that you handle them with care so that their quality will last for a longer period of time. We can never deny the fact that your crystal chandelier requires proper cleaning instructions to avoid denting its quality. Here are some tips that should help you maintain its overall luxurious and elegant look.
Tip # 1: Avoid Using The Dishwasher
When you plan to give the crystal of your chandelier a little bit of cleaning, we are often tempted to put them in our dishwasher to minimize the effort. After all, there isn’t really much of a difference between the crystal-made drinking cups and the crystals on your chandelier.
But in truth, the crystals on your chandelier are quite delicate as compared to those used for drinking. In fact, using a dishwasher in cleaning out your crystal chandelier may cause it to fog and lose its sheen and brilliance.
It is advisable that you wash your crystals with warm running water and avoid using any detergents that are normally found in your kitchen. If you don’t have one handy that is specially made for crystal, then clean it up with a soft cloth in warm, running water and let them drip dry to reduce abrasions.
Tip # 2: Soft, Cotton Cloth Only
Abrasions and rough, solid objects are an enemy to crystal chandeliers. We all know that crystals can be easily abraded when it comes in contact with sharp objects. When cleaning out your crystals, only use soft, cotton cloth free from any abrasive materials. Check the cloth you plan to use and make sure that there are no minuscule solid objects found anywhere on it. A foggy crystal can be easily remedied, but a scratched crystal has no hope of redemption.
When cleaning your crystal chandelier, you need to keep in mind that crystals are very sensitive to both temperature and surface contact. The cleaning agents that you use will practically determine how your crystal will look after it has been applied with it. Always practice caution when cleaning out your chandelier and avoid rushing with this little project to avoid any mishaps.
