Curveball Confirms Suspicions He Lied About Iraq Wmd

"Curveball," the CIA informant who helped the Bush administration rationalize starting the Iraq war, has admitted he was lying. Curveball is really an Iraqi named Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, who said he had found secret labs in Iraq used to produce biological weapons. Curveball now states he lied about weapons of mass destruction so that Bush would invade Iraq and get rid of Hussein. This isis a story a pay day loan couldn't have bought to make up.
Continued Curveball's lie by Bush and Powell
Claims by Curveball that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction have long been discredited. For years, Curveball has said it is truth. But on February 16 he told The Guardian newspaper he made it all up. After escaping Saddam Hussein's Iraq and fleeing to Germany, al-Janabi began telling German intelligence agents that Iraq had hidden mobile bioweapons labs throughout the country. What Curveball said was supported by Bush in his 2003 state of the Union address. Also, United States Secretary of State Colin Powell gave a speech to the United Nations about this. In March 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq. Bush admits that there were not WMD in Iraq eventually though.
Curveball doubted by CIA
When al-Janabi got there, it was hard to believe him. German intelligence was not so sure about what was going on. Tyler Drumheller, former head of the CIA in Europe, suspected that al-Janabi's false testimony about Iraqi bioweapons had to do with his asylum application. The story was never believed by Drumheller. That means CIA Chief George Tenat was warned about Curveball early. If Curveball lied to oust Saddam Hussein, then he is "one of the world's greatest strategic planners." This was what Drumheller told the Guardian after al-Janabi's confession. No matter what the truth was, the Bush administration only had Curveball's story as evidence to use to go to war which is why it was used, Drumheller said.
Curveball faces backlash for coming clean
Even though about 4,500 U.S. military members and over 100,000 civilians in Iraq have died because of the Iraq war, Curveball said he was glad to have helped the Bush administration go to war. It's a criminal offense to do anything that leads to war in Germany, which is al-Janabi's home. Even though it had been known that al-Janabi lied, $4,000 a month was being paid to him still by German intelligence. In Iraq, politicians scorned his stated desire to return and called for his permanent exile.
