Cycle Safely Using The Cateye Tl-ld610 Tail Light

I am sure there are many opinions about what safe cycling is. You might even get a different answer from every cyclist you talk to even though there would be some common themes. But to me safe cycling is a combination of obeying the rules of the road, proper equipment and common sense. One of the most important pieces of equipment is having proper lighting like the CatEye tl-ld610 tail light but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Let’s look at each of these three aspects of cycling safely and see how each of them plays into helping us be safe and enjoying cycling for years to come.

Obeying the rules of the road is no small thing and I have been caught in some bad habits as well, while riding. We really need to get into our minds that we are not the only ones on the road as much as we would like that to be true we know it isn’t but we often ride like we are. Stop signs don’t mean STOP at best they mean slow down and that is not the way we should think. Maybe if we thought of driving our bike instead of riding it we would do better with the rules. We are not trying to be unsafe we just get sloppy about what we know is right.

Using proper equipment is no lees important. Now you may say what do you mean my bike is my equipment and that is right? Is the bike the proper size and set up properly for you? Are you riding a bike that is in good working order? Does it have good brakes and are the gears working properly? Not everyone is able to buy a brand new bike and have it set up properly at a bike shop. So if you just bought yours second hand that is ok but you need to either go over it yourself to make sure everything is in good working order and set up for you or you need to get someone to do it who can. Do you have proper lights for riding in poor lighting conditions? (By the way I like the CatEye lights and the CatEye tl-ld610 is a great rear light that is essential for riding safely.) I could ask a lot more questions but you get the idea.

My last point is use common sense which seems to be a rear commodity today. A lot of people seem to have the thinking it is not my responsibility and are ready to blame anyone else for things not going right. I am a firm believer that we need to take responsibility for ourselves and our actions. Many (far too many) riders do stupid things while riding like not giving enough time for themselves when crossing at an intersection or riding between cars or not turning their lights on at dusk. Why? Whether it’s laziness or just trying to show off or be smart, there really is no excuse for putting ourselves or others at risk.

So ride safe and you will be able to enjoy this wonderful sport for many years to come.
