Dadt Repealed

History was made today. On December 22nd, 2010 the federal government passed the overturning of the DADT after 17 years of being the law of the land. The Democratic House of Representatives passed the bill out of the House where it sat in the Senate. The Senate did not seem like it was going to repeal DADT.
President Barack Obama signed the bill into law during a morning signing ceremony at the Interior Department auditorium because of the amount of folks that wanted to view the historic signing today. The Republican Party attempted to block the changing at every turn. John McCain is likely to be at home bawling with Lindsay Graham. McCain, the Republican nominee for president in the 2010 election, has been in total opposition to the changing of Don't Ask Don't Tell Law. McCain worries that the changing of the law will hurt the military's ability to fight wars. John McCain was a past fighter and was caught during the Korean War. He was a prisioner of war for a long time. His opposition to the overturning has been all over the news.
Joe Lieberman is one of the leading Republicans, I mean Democrats, I mean Independents that voted in support of repealing the law.
Many soldiers have been discharged under the former Don't Ask Don't Tell Law law for being gay or lesbian. These military members were either turned in as being gay or did so themselves. A good deal of discharged soldiers have indicated that they want to return to the service. A Lot Of questions remain whether they can retain their old rank or do they start over. Other issues remain such as military benefits for married military inlistees. Some oberservers indicate that implementation may be an problem, but don't count on it. Implimentation issues must still be dealt with in the future. Ladies were once not in the standing army, but their addition was done without too A Good Many issues. Going back into history, the same thing happened intergrating African Americans into the military. These issues were handled, so the changing of DADT will also be handled as well.
Most observers did not think that the law would be repealed in the lame duck session of Congress. However, sometimes anything can happen. The law originally went into law under Bill Clinton's administration. Although is was movement towards today's law, DADT of DADT has had inumerable reprecussions. Don't Ask Don't Tell made it illegal for the military to inquire into the sexual status of the inlistees. The law also provided that inlistees could not tell anyone that they were gay. Therefore, the name was fairly straight forward as to what DADT does. Some were wondering if the law not repealed if Democratic President Barack Obama would attempt to remove it through his executive powers, but now he does not have to pull out that weapon.
