Dream Act Us Immigration Bill Fails To Reach Vote In Senate

Last Saturday morning, the Senate voted 55 in favor of the act and 41 opposing it, which are five votes short of the 60 needed to bring the bill to the floor this year. If it were passed, the Dream Act would have provided a path to US citizenship for thousands of illegal immigrants brought to the country as children without any US Visa or Green card. It would have allowed them to earn conditional permanent residency in the US if they attend college or join the military for two years.
Opponents consider the Dream Act as amnesty for law breakers and reason for increase in illegal immigrants into the United States, argued the bill would provide an incentive for undocumented workers to bring their children to live in the United States, and is a block to legal newcomers who complied with US immigration procedures.
President Barack Obama described the outcome of the vote as "incredibly disappointing" in a statement and added "The DREAM Act is important to our economic competitiveness, military readiness, and law enforcement efforts? Our nation is enriched by their talents and would benefit from the success of their efforts".
