Dads - Teach Your Children About Sports

Attention Dads! It is your job to teach your kids everything you can about sports. When it comes to growing up, one of the greatest memories you can give your kids is that of the two of your either out in the yard throwing a football around, or finally perfecting your cross-over dribble to beat your dad to the basket in the driveway. Every kid will remember how you taught them to snap their wrist and follow through to their opposite hip when throwing the football, or how you taught them to point their lead shoulder at the target when firing a baseball. These are small little instances that can have a major impact on a child as they grow up.

As the saying goes, "Those who can't do, teach." If your a father who wasn't blessed with extraordinary athletic abilities, but know a lot about sports, sit your child down in front of a television some afternoon and watch a game together. Teach them the intricacies of the games and what the rules are. Give them tips as to what the players did correctly in certain situations, or how they could've done something different to improve a play. Play little games such as naming a position and a team, and ask your child to name the player you're thinking of. If there's a stadium close to your house, or even simply a high school, take your kids to a game to have them experience the real thing, as opposed to only seeing it on TV. Having a dad who teaches his child about sports can help create a special bond that both of you will share throughout your lives.
