Data Management: Understanding Its Categories
Its general framework is very broad and is grouped based on the function. Under Data Governance, data assets and data steward are handled. Another group named as Data Architecture involves three aspects namely analysis, architecture and modeling. Maintenance, administration and management system falls under the category of Database Management. The Data Security group is in-charge of access, erasure, security and privacy. On the other hand, the so-called Data Quality Management takes charge of the cleansing and integrity. Aside from the aforementioned groups, other data and information management groups also exist. And they are focused on other activities such as technical application, uses, interpretation and many others. At present, there is an on-going debate as to which term should be used. The word ‘data’ is now being used interchangeably with other words like information. The term ‘knowledge’ is also sometimes being applied especially on in a non-technical setting or context. Information management and knowledge information also exist nowadays. This is one of the tendencies that are quite different from its real definition as data does not only concern information or knowledge, but how they are also processed and used practically. The information ladder can provide a more detailed distinction between two relevant items namely data and its derived values. The interpretation of data can be different. How it is perceived, used, handled and managed makes data unique.
