Decorating Your Home Inexpensively
Ignore the expensive galleries. Unless you want to make your own, don't bother trying to hunt down original pieces of art right now. Track down some prints of your favorite pieces of art. Prints are a great way to have fantastic art for a fraction of the price. Art prints are cheaper and easier to deal with than original artworks. You can even do the framing yourself when you buy prints because they are usually printed in easily farmable sizes. You can save money on framing by buying a frame that is on sale and framing the print yourself. Buying prints of your favorite artwork and doing the framing yourself is easier on your budget and your schedule because you don't have to cater to a gallery's schedule or have to pick up a framed piece of art as soon as a framer calls you. "Dumpter diving" is a great way to find free decorative items for your home. Are you constantly finding yourself saying hello to new neighbors and goodbye to the old ones? Take some time to visit the curbs and dumpsters in your neighborhood if this is the case. The types of things that get left behind because they are too inconvenient to move will astound you. You will be amazed at what you can find-you might find enough beautiful things that you don't have to buy anything at all to decorate your house. Take time to make sure that the items you find on a curbside are really being thrown away and not waiting to be picked up for something. A quick knock on the door will usually get you the answers you need. Switch out your old rugs for new ones. Even if you are forced to live in a home with wall to wall carpet, you can put down room sized decorative rugs to change the feel of the room. Finding a room sized rug is easy-most department stores carry them. If you have hardwood or tile floors, use accent rugs to change the feel of the room. Accent rugs are affordable and can easily be moved or replaced. If you are good with crafts you could even make your own accent rugs. Quite a few people find that, once they start decorating, the things they want the most are pretty easy to find. Just take some time and let yourself be creative. Empty walls can be just as, if not more, beautiful than a wall crammed full of art. Store bought art is fine, but sometimes the decorations you make yourself are even better! Don't rush-give yourself time to think about the decorations you want most. The only people that benefit from your rushing to decorate are the people who sell you the decorations.
