Defying Myths On Camcorders

Camcorders are a new generation compact and easy to use camera that is used to record video digitally by recording images on a light-sensitive sensor. Camcorders have features such as displaying an image on the camera's screen immediately after it is recorded, the capacity to record videos with sounds, the ability to edit images, and deletion of video clippings allowing re-use of the storage they occupied.

However, like most other gadgets, camcorders too have several myths and misconceptions attached to them. Here I am going to defy some popular beliefs regarding camcorders.

• You still need a still camera for still photos: A camcorder can be used to record still images as well as videos, even the camcorders show a good resolution for still photography. They also allow easy sharing and uploading of pictures through a PC. But, the fact is that a camcorder cannot replace a digital camera completely and if you are to click many scenes, then it would be better to purchase a digital camera rather than a camcorder.

• Camcorders weight a lot: Initially when camcorders were introduced, they were equipped with VHS (Video Home System) and they were quite bulky and heavy. However, now camcorders come in small, easy-to-use sizes that can fit snugly into your palm while recording. More so, today’s camcorders come in DVD format rather than cassette format as in older camcorders and as a result, the novel camcorders are smaller in size and weigh much less. The presence of DualFlash memory is another reason for its light weight and compact size.

• Costly: Another myth regarding camcorders is that they are terribly expensive. But, this myth has been resolved because the time has lowered down rates of technology. Price is actually directly proportional to features like format, size and amount of CCDs (charge-coupled device), manual features, high definition or standard definition and the resolution of digital picture provided. Today, you can get a camcorder at affordable price range Rs.10, 000 to 25,000.

• Biggest zoom means better quality: People have this illusion that if a camcorder shows biggest zoom, then it would be a better camcorder. But, this is not so. Digital "zoom" is simply digital enlargement of the pixels. Optical zoom uses the lens to zoom an object. Generally, you need to use just 4X zoom; bigger zoom is required only with tripod.

• Camcorders are used only on special occasions: Most people think that camcorders are to be used only on special occasions like family get together, journalistic reporting, documentary making and for content creation etc. But, this is not so. You can use your camcorder at any time.

A camcorder is a common device, which can be used by anybody and it can be more popular among people if you remove your misconceptions related with camcorders.
