Depression Effects

Depression effects can be either short term or long term. This condition can affect you in several ways. It cannot only interfere with your daily activities but also with the way you relate to other people. There are different types of this condition and each type has different associated effects. The effects will range from mild to severe depending on the type of depression that you have. This condition can affect you physically, emotionally and even socially. Short term effects can easily turn into long term if they are not treated in a timely manner.

Long term effects are characterized by persistent depressive symptoms that may last for long depending on the severity and your age as well. They could last for more than two years in adults and about a year in children and adolescents. Some of the long term depression effects are unrelenting sadness, anxiety and feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness.

Mood problems and negative thoughts that may last for years or even an entire lifetime if not treated are other consequences. Other long term effects are sleeping problems such insomnia and hypersomnia. Insomnia is characterized by sleeplessness while hypersomnia is a condition characterized by excessive amount of sleep where you can sleep for more than 20 hours a day.

Short term effects may not last for long. They include fatigue and loss of energy. You will lose interest in hobbies and activities that you used to enjoy. You will also experience sexual problems such as erectile dysfunction. Women may experience menstrual problems.
