Depression due to hormone imbalance Hormones are the chemicals help the body to work properly. The hormones are involved in most of the biological processes of the body. The main task of progesterone is to promote reproduction. And a disturbance in this activity leads to less sex drive. This is the main cause of depression. Similarly in men testosterone is the hormone promoting reproduction. An imbalance in this hormone may lead to reduced sex drive in men. Thus they suffer from depression. Besides, imbalance in testosterone also may lead to fatigue, loss of hair, softer testes.
