Designer Tips For Decorating Your Apartment Cheaply

Your apartment’s saying all the wrong things about you, and you want to do something about it, but you don’t have much. What do you do? First, let us take a look at the situation. Let’s see what you have to begin with. First, you have a wooden floor. Let us say that you also have an antique, carved wooden sofa from Bali. For the dining area you have an upholstered Victorian dining set. You also have a small table and two chairs, all painted white and distressed. A stainless steel shelf lies in one corner. Finally, you have two fantastic metal wall decor pieces: a metal wall sculpture of a lovely pair of lovey-dovey white herons, and metal wall hanging. Let's say that you like the minimalist look that is clean and simplistic. Okay, now we’re ready to consider the possibilities.

Tip #1 Decorate different rooms differently.
Realize that it’s not true that, since you’ve chosen the minimalist look, you should have the modern style in all your rooms. No, you can have different themes for different enclosed spaces in your home.

Tip #2 Select Bali.
That said, you'd likely be better off selecting the exotic feel of Bali for your living area. You already have an antique, carved wood couch from Bali, a celebrated possession by any standards and you can transform it into your focal point. Moreover, you have that fantastic metal wall sculpture of two lovey-dovey white herons, and white herons are found in Indonesia. Direct a beam of light on it to showcase it. If you have a large home art decor in black or another dark color, what you have to do is paint your wall white and place the large wall art there painting your wall [white|white or creamy off-white] and [positioning|placing] the wall art there is a [great|good] idea}. That will form a nice contrast. Again, give it visual impact by utilizing light. Your existing wood floor is in great shape. If ever, all it needs is a new layer of shellac. Complete the arrangement by placing your stainless steel shelf in one corner to liven that corner up.

Tip #3 Work with what you already have.
There’s not much you can do about the dining set, as it would cost you too much to replace it. How do you weave the theme of your dining area alongside the Victorian dining set. You might consider, for illustration, removing anything that is shiny. That means that tropical fish wall decor in matte stainless steel frames will have to go. You might also consider crown moldings and casings, standards for this kind of theme.

Tip #4 Your distressed dining set can go to the kitchen.
There it’ll make a nice accent as a breakfast table.

Tip #5 Use light appropriately.
It’s amazing how light can actually set the mood of the moment. Use recessed lighting, also concealed lighting. Concealed lighting can be effective in creating an exciting atmosphere. For instance, you can direct light from a cabinet top to the ceiling, allowing the light to bounce back to the other areas of the room. Have more than one color. Use one color for general use, another to soothe or calm, and yet another for romance.
