Detox With The 100 Mile Diet
The goal of this diet is to only eat foods grown within a hundred mile radius of where you are located at any given time. This means that if you are at home in Cincinnati or on vacation in the Mexico, you must eat locally no matter where you are. The 100 mile radius, created by the couple, is just enough room to make it possible to find food that is fresh and locally grown. The most important part of this diet is that you’ll know what you’re eating. With the convenient availability of too many food products dripping in pesticides that are also genetically modified, or raised in a box, this diet has become very popular in the health awareness world. We ate more vegetables and fewer processed products, sampled a wider variety of foods, and ate more fresh food at its nutritional peak. Eating from farmers’ markets and cooking from scratch, we never felt a need to count calories.” The 100 Mile Diet does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. The average person will view the price of costly organic foods or fresh fruits and vegetables and simply decide that they can’t afford it. But if you examine closely enough, the alternative product are probably out of season and therefore you are paying a higher premium for this product to get to you. An example of this is the fact that many New Yorkers have become accustomed to consuming both strawberries and cherries during the winter season. These fruits travel thousands of miles to reach them the city. With the 100 Mile Diet, dieters reconnect with seasonal items, eating fresh produce that was likely picked within 24 hours of consumption and significantly cheaper because of its proximity and availability. Eating this way also guarantees that your food will be better tasting, better for the environment, better for local economies, and better for your health. While both the creators of the 100 Mile Diet held the diet for a year, others try it for shorter time periods, or simply incorporate aspects of the regime into their daily food habits.
