Develop Your Own Lie Detector
There are quite a few people who will say that it can be hard to know when a person is lying because the signs of lying are split-second deals. Some are, but some are not. And there are also sociopaths that are quite adept at lying, that can pass police lie-detector tests. For ordinary people, however, it’s not impossible to get an idea if what you are hearing is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It takes quite a bit of practice, but once you have a handle on a few observation skills, and knowing what to look for, it can even be entertaining. · Eye contact – this can actually go two ways, the more common one is to turn away and avoid, but the better liars will actually turn and face you and meet your eyes head on. If they open their eyes too wide for your taste, it could be a sign of feigned innocence. · Gestures- nervous tics, crossing of arms around their chest, or one leg over the other as if to protect themselves, or will turn their body away from you as if to hide something. · Hesitation and nervousness in answering the simplest questions. An unlikely pause in the middle of a sentence is something that is hard to miss. These signs will give you an indication if the person you are dating is not as forthcoming as you would want them to be, but not necessarily that they are hiding something really, really bad. It may just be an embarrassing little detail, or something that they are not comfortable sharing with you just yet. So, even if it seems like your date is hiding something, don’t panic and call everything off.
