A Well-Balanced Diet Program For Pregnant Diabetic Women

Diabetes is generally classified into three categories. Type I diabetes, Type II diabetes and GDM or Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. The body of a person suffering from diabetes usually stops producing insulin, whereas in some cases, the body produces insulin, but fails to utilize it properly.

Due to this, the glucose is not properly absorbed and utilized resulting in increased blood sugar level. GDM is mostly observed pregnant ladies. It may be defined as a condition in which pregnant women exhibit an alarming increase in their blood sugar level.

During pregnancy, in a woman, hormones that are produced may increase her body's resistance to insulin. This in turn results in increased blood sugar levels.

This may have an adverse effect on both the mother as well as baby. Children born under such conditions may face complications such as jaundice and low blood sugar level later in their lives. Therefore, it becomes necessary to keep a check on this condition. A proper diabetes diet pregnancy becomes important here.

Ensure that your diabetes diet pregnancy consists of a well-balanced diet containing all the essential nutrients in proper quantities.

The diabetes diet pregnancy should strictly avoid foodstuffs such as red meat, junk foods and dairy products such as cream and cheese. Avoid foodstuffs that have high sugar contents. Therefore, the diabetes diet pregnancy should not include foodstuffs such as sweets and desserts. In addition, avoid fried and processed foods completely.

Fruits such as apple, orange, sweet-lime and peaches are highly nutritious. However, try not exceeding the limit of your fruit servings above 3-4 per day.
