Body: Diabetes insipidus is another type of diabetes. As the disease is more known to be related to the lack of insulin production, insulin shots, low sugar diets and other ideas associated with sweets, diabetes can happen without lack of insulin. Diabetes insipidus (or DI) is a form of diabetes that has nothing to do with high sugar levels in the blood. It is characterized by large amounts of urine which is not sweet. Insipidus means “without taste” in Latin and thus, comes the term.

Diabetes insipidus is less known as compared to Diabetes mellitus or common diabetes. While Diabetes mellitus is called "sugar diabetes", diabetes insipidus is also known as "water diabetes". Symptoms of diabetes insipidus are similar to those of untreated diabetes mellitus. The only difference is that the urine has no glucose and therefore, it is not sweet. They are most likely to be dehydrated since their body cannot save much of the water it takes.

Brain related injuries can trigger diabetes insipidus such as injuries that can disrupt the pituitary glands in doing its job - to produce and store ADH. Diseases like brain aneurysm, head injury, brain infection, brain tumor and more are also possible. The signs and symptoms of diabetes insipidus also include constipation and dry skin.

Since, diabetes treatment of insulin does not apply to diabetes insipidus, DI has no natural cure. Diabetes insipidus patients just need enough fluid intake to satisfy their thirst. Diagnosing diabetes insipidus and curing it earlier is best so as to avoid serious complications.
