Diagnosing Penile Papules- What To Expect At Your Appointment

The only way to get an accurate diagnosis of penile papules is to visit a licensed health care professional. Many people falsely think that this condition can be diagnosed by observing pictures on the internet and guessing that is the condition that they have. Unfortunately, this can lead to incorrect assumptions which can delay treatment for a more serious and dangerous condition.

While pearly penile papules are not contagious or dangerous, there are a number of conditions that have very similar symptoms to the benign papules, such as penile warts. Because many of these other conditions are the result of sexually transmitted diseases, getting a correct diagnosis early can spare sexual partners discomfort and allow them to remain disease free.

If you notice a growth on your penis, make an appointment to see a doctor. A family doctor, internist, dermatologist, or an urologist are all excellent doctors that will be familiar with your condition. If you are too embarrassed to tell the person making the appointment the reason for your visit request, simply tell the operator that you have a skin issue on your genitals. That should be sufficient information to schedule the appointment.

When you arrive at the office for your appointment, you will be required to fill out paperwork which may ask you questions about your sexual history. If you are embarrassed to fill out the paperwork, you may tell the receptionist that you would rather just discuss your condition with the physician. Fill out as much of the paperwork as you are comfortable doing.

When in the examination room, you will be asked to remove your clothing and to dress in an exam gown. You will sit on the exam table until the examination is complete. Your doctor will examine the area, take samples, and ask you a number of questions. It is at this time that it is imperative that you answer each question truthfully and thoroughly in order to give the doctor enough information to aid him in his diagnosis.

Your doctor will then give you suggestions about what he believes is causing your condition. If he suspects an STD, he will offer you treatment options to help you deal with the illness, or cure it if that is possible. If the diagnosis is penile papules, you will be offered the option to have them removed by CO2 laser. While not necessary, this treatment option for papules is safe and will remove the papules very quickly. Total recovery time will be about two weeks, but most men are able to return to work the same day.
