Different Types Of Indoor Heating

Whatever the chosen energy (gas, oil, wood, electricity), you must select the heating installation that suits you best. Here’s a little advice on how to choose the right heating equipment, its installation and other factors? First take a look at different types of heating installations and how they work.

1. The Central Heating System (with hot water pipes)

A single generator (central heating boiler) produces heat, which is transmitted to all parts of the heater (central heating radiator) through a fluid (usually water). This water comes from a boiler that is connected with radiator.

Two major types of boilers:

- Boiler for heating only

- Boiler for heating and hot water central heating

The location of your boiler has a huge impact on central heating.

- The wall boiler (more compact)

- The floor-standing boiler may develop a greater power, but by cons, often takes more space.

And finally, for your central heating, you have to choose one of these two modes of circulation of hot water in radiator pipes.

- The standard central heating radiators

- The floor heating radiators

The last important point on a heating boiler is to select the proper power. You should consider your needs (including hot water), and the characteristics of your home (insulation quality, surface heating, orientation etc) in order to come up with the most energy efficient installation plan.

2. The Decentralised heating

In a decentralised heating system, each room has its own furnace or heater.

Electric heating offers a huge selection of heaters: convector, radiant panels, storage heaters, radiators inertia, and radiator coolants. There are also independent gas heaters or fuel stoves.

The fireplace or wood burning stoves are frequently installed in the living room.

3. The Auxiliary heating

In this category, there are stoves, kerosene heaters and blowers

To select the heating mode best suited for you, you must consider beforehand all the insulation in your house, orientation thereof, and the climate of the region where you live. The main energy is fuel, gas, electricity, wood and wooden products, solar and geothermal.
