Digital Photography In New York Intertwines Two Souls
Friends don’t find it necessary to ask my parents’ profession as the elegant black and white portraits in our living room’s wooden divider and colored images enclosed in gilded frames on the walls of our dining area pretty much reveal what they do for a living. Before each became a professional architectural photographer, Mom and Dad had worked as NY photographers for baby products manufactured by a leading multinational company.
Their everyday conversations at work and countless digital photography collaborations in New York eventually made them see the special qualities of the other. Soon they started dating but instead of the usual movie dates or fine dining, they engaged in the other areas of photography which they took interest in.
Dad’s inclination is landscape photography and since New York is famous for its Central Park, he shot it from many different angles. Most of these photos had Mom as the main subject.
Mom, on the other hand, loves interior design. She was supposed to take it as a course back in college but due to lack of funds, she ended up in journalism which offered photography classes. In showing her appreciation for a friend’s lanai or a hotel’s well designed lobby, Mom would shoot it from a dramatic point and she never fails to achieve a crisp photo with great resolution.
Fusing Mom’s interior photography in NY and Dad’s landscape works surprisingly resulted in a successful business endeavor. They later decided to put up a photo studio wherein they accepted all kinds of photography jobs from portraits, still life, reproduction, landscape, cityscape, etc.
When they got married two years after setting up their photo studio, Mom and Dad spent lesser time in photography as they started working on building our family’s haven in New York. Coming from marginalized families, Mom and Dad had always dreamt of living in a Victorian-inspired home. Perhaps, this is why they keep telling me and my brother that they were soul mates from the time God formed them in His mind.
As soon as our Victorian home was finally done, Mom and Dad took many photos of it and used these to highlight a photo exhibit which they mounted using their own resources. They also displayed alongside the photos of our Victorian home their earliest works to depict how their love for photography led them to each other’s life.
