Dining Table Ideas For Your Ultimate Dining Room
For those families who tend not to eat together, or who are without children a dining table is still one of the most important pieces of furniture, providing a place to sit with an early morning cup of coffee & the newspaper, & giving you a space to entertain in. Ideas for dining tables includes tables for contemporary homes, entertaining & some ideas for quirky one off tables. If your home is decorated in a modern style then you will want a contemporary dining table. These tables work well in rooms that are light & open, & don’t have too much other furniture in them. Most modern tables are glass topped, which is practical, but not everyone wants the transparency of glass. Fortunately these days glass that has been lacquered on the underside is becoming more available, & new wood & lacquer finishes are also available in contemporary style tables. These can have either legs at each corner, or legs that criss cross under the top, or a pedestal base in the middle, & many use the legs/base as the main design feature of the table. Why not make a real statement with your dining table? If you don’t want to spend a lot of money you could have one made from recycled wood, check salvage yards for the materials. You could use decorations from old fireplaces for the corners/tops of the legs. Or even use old doors (although you will need to lay a sheet of glass on top to give you an even surface). A corrugated iron sheet covered with glass gives an ultra urban edge to your dining table (make sure you fix the glass on well though, laying the corrugated iron sheet on a flat piece of wood first, for support). Or if you have a table top already you could make a pedestal base from unusual materials, old bricks maybe, or an old chest of drawers. Its common to have two dining tables, one in the kitchen for every day family use, & another in a formal dining room or area. The tables used for entertaining tend to be larger, & it is common to buy an extending dining table so you can accommodate all of your guests when needed, & save space when you don’t. When you purchase a formal dining table, you need to think about the number of guests you are likely to have, especially for special occasions like Christmas. There is nothing worse than buying a beautiful table that wont fit everyone, & having to add a not so beautiful table to one end to provide seating for everyone! As a general rule a 160cm table will only seat 4, a 180cm 6, a 2 metre table 8 & so on. There are plenty of tables that extend to 280cm or even 3 metres, & these can be a wise investment. So take some time to think about the different types of tables you can have, as each has its place.
