Visitors to Atlanta are looking for destinations that will entertain their children. Here are some fun activities to enjoy with children in the Atlanta area this summer.
Fernbank Museum of Natural History offers “97 Days (and Ways) to Play” this summer. Kids love the museum’s permanent exhibit “Giants of the Mesozoic”, which contains cast fossil replicas of some of the largest dinosaurs that ever lived. A popular special exhibit, “Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns, and Mermaids,” will run through August 14. Children will also enjoy the Nature Quest learning playground or watching a movie in the museum’s IMAX Theater. Fernbank Museum of Natural History is located at 767 Clifton Road. There are four fountain shows daily, at 12:30pm, 3:30pm, 6:30 pm, and 9pm. At other times the kids will enjoy splashing and cooling off in the fountain. Children will also enjoy splashing in the new Legacy Fountain in Piedmont Park in midtown. In addition the park has two fun and innovative playgrounds. Activities at both parks are free.

The Chattahoochee Nature Center, at 9135 Willeo Road in the northern suburb of Roswell, is a great place to explore. The Raptor Aviaries house eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey. An annual summer event at the nature center is the Flying High Butterfield Festival, held this year on July 16-17. Activities include a parade, crafts, butterfly kites, and the release of hundreds of butterflies twice each day.
