Stirring up feelings of lust, sex, fire & aggression, red can be a highly charged colour. the brighter side of red is bold, which means that it can be used to raise awareness.

Like green, brown is linked to mother earth, calm and relaxation. there is a trend to use wood as a background colour to give the feel of organics and the environment.

Pale grey is usually used to create shiny gradient effects in web design. The colour might be linked to refinement, stability and boredom.

In web design, purple is an underused colour, probably because it can be seen as a ladylike colour. it's also linked to royalty, romance & wisdom.

Grey can be a weird colour as it isn't strong. it can be used to make sophisticated, classy & calm web sites. it's used heavily on technology web sites.

Knowing more about the psychology of colour could give web designers the upper hand when you're designing a client site. simply knowing what colours create what effect can make a website successful. there's nothing worse than creating a great-looking site but doesn't connect with the end user. using colour cleverly to create feeling, contrast & balance can change a boring website into a great one.
