Discover Serenbe, Georgia’s Sustainable Community
Serenbe is a 1,000 acre community that will preserve 70% of its green space for recreation and farming. The housing will have a minimal impact on the surroundings. Serenbe is laid out in an omega shape with three hamlets or villages. The design is similar to an English village, with each hamlet having commercial and residential property. The villages are connected with roads, walking trails, and equestrian paths. The entire development is pedestrian friendly. Residential options include single family homes and townhomes. All homes are EarthCraft Certified and built to green building standards. Serenbe is the site of the HGTV Green Home 2012. The community promotes recycling, composting, natural landscaping, and water conservation. The community green space protects wetlands and watershed areas. A number of businesses are located in the commercial space. There are galleries, shops, a market, a medspa, and three restaurants. The Blue Eyed Daisy Bakeshop offers casual fare. The Farmhouse and The Hil restaurants have both received national critical acclaim and have been reviewed in magazines such as Bon Appétit and Gourmet. Serenbe has become a dining destination. Serenbe Farm is a 30 acre certified organic and biodynamic farm in the community. Residents and visitors can shop for produce from the farm at the Saturday Market held from May through October. The restaurants also use organic produce from the farm on their menus. All the produce is distributed within 40 miles of the farm. Serenbe Farm is home to more than 100 animals, and tours of the farm can be scheduled. Serenbe offers a number of amenities to its residents and visitors. There is an inn with conference facilities, a Serenbe Playhouse, and an amphitheater for entertainment provided by the Serenbe Institute. Bikes and golf carts may be rented, and the stable offers guided trail rides. The trails through wooded areas, the wildflower meadow and around the lake provide plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. The Serenbe community serves as a model for other similar developments around the country. The developers have achieved a sustainable and bucolic community at the outskirts of a major metropolitan area. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com D.
