Discover Why N Scale Model Trains Reduce Stress

Has anyone reading this entry felt stressed out lately? Oh, really? Have you thought about getting a hobby? As trite as these questions sound, a hobby really can help in dealing with stress. The thing is, hobbies are some of those activities we think we don't have time for anymore. We are going to spend time dealing with stress, though, one way or another. An imaginative hobby such as model railroading can really help.

If this notion appeals to you but your space is limited, check out n scale model trains. Why n scale? At a scale ratio of 1:160, n scale model trains are smaller by around 50 per cent than HO scale trains. While preserving detail, the smaller scale allows the hobbyist to create a much more exciting layout in a smaller space. To confirm this theory, it helps to know that n scale model trains are wildly popular in Japan, where personal space is at a minimum. The reduced size means that the possibilities for track mileage and accessories have doubled, and a good model railroad is all about imagination. At the same time, n scale is still large enough to allow fine detailing, not only of the trains but the vast array of scale model buildings, cars and even people that can be added to a basic layout.

A good hobby not only distracts us, but so engrosses us that time passes quickly. As dinnertime or bedtime approaches, we look up and suddenly realize that we have been here for two or three hours and haven't once thought about the problems at work for the entire time. Try to pick a quiet place for your hobby. If you can devote a separate room to it, that's great. N scale model trains can also fit on a tabletop in the corner, and the time and effort will still be worth it. You will find yourself spending time in a miniature world where you are the boss and things are the way you choose them to be.

In model railroading, there will always be more track to be laid and towns to be built. You can even change the geography by adding covered bridges or tunnels for your n scale model trains to run through, or planting a miniature forest that doesn't need watering. Right now, though, we all need to spend some time being creative and thinking about something besides our problems. Maybe it's time to get a hobby.
