Do Knot Disturb Movie Review
Now let's analyse Do Knot Disturb, inspired by the French film La Doublure aka The Valet (2006). David has tackled extra-marital affairs in his earlier films like Saajan Chale Sasural, Gharwali Baharwali and Biwi No 1. Do Knot Disturb also talks of a married man having a torrid affair with a supermodel, but it's not remotely similar to his past endeavours. Actually, Do Knot Disturb rests on a thin plot and David relies on gags and jokes to keep you hooked for those two-plus hours. Even though you realise that there's not much meat in the story, even though the situations are silly, you remain glued to the proceedings because it keeps you in splits thanks to the funny jokes and the weird characters. So what's the verdict? Do Knot Disturb is sure to keep you smiling from start to end. A few portions may even prompt you to laugh aloud or break into a guffaw. If non-stop mindless entertainment is on your mind, this recipe is just for you. Do 'Knot' miss this one! You know when you enter a film like Do Knot Disturb, logic should be the last thing on your mind considering the names it comprises of but then what you encounter is a huge let down. A two timing hubby is no more a novelty on screen and Govinda and David Dhawan have churned out many films revolving around this theme earlier. But this time around they fail together. In the name of comedy in here you have actors yelling at the top of their voices or breaking into female tones for no rhyme or reasons, outdated situational jokes about a dead body going around a hotel, slapping spree meant to derive laughs, faulty characterizations. The film is supposedly completely set in Delhi and the characters too keep saying this but it appears not a single frame seems to have been shot in the capital city. Dubai-Abu Dhabi has been passed off as Delhi. In fact Ritesh’s hotel is shown at a sea side with yachts parked. The makers seem well prepared to take their audience on a ride it seems. Nadeem Shravan’s music is dated like the film’s jokes barring the Bebo number. Sets are gaudy and camerawork functional. Its humour derived from such staple David Dhawan cliches as mistaken identities and misunderstandings, Do Knot Disturb is a repellant comedy with irrational plot-points and flaccid punch-lines. The jokes are stale; most of them involve slapstick gags like a corpse getting stuck in a laundry chute, and a possessive ex-boyfriend who goes around punching everyone in sight. Hanging off a wafer-thin premise that barely holds, this film is repetitive and boring, and doesn't even give its actors much scope to push their comic boundaries. The once dependable Govinda is reduced to a mere caricature of his earlier self, his performance now amounting to a variety of facial contortions, and silly dialogues yelled out at the top of his voice. Ritesh Deshmukh and Ranvir Shorey are wasted in thankless roles, and Lara Dutta spends most of the film batting her eyelashes and speaking in a squeaky voice. The film's one major eyesore is the usually elegant Sushmita Sen whose unflattering wardrobe does nothing to hide her sudden weight-gain. As the doubting wife determined to catch her philandering husband, Sushmita ought to have considered sitting on Govinda, and more than likely he'd have confessed his infidelity in the first ten minutes of this film itself, thus sparing us the torture of watching the rest of this drivel. Ritesh Deshmukh is superb. Matching Govinda in scene after scene is next to impossible, but Ritesh stands on his feet all through. His scenes with Lara also are thoroughly enjoyable. Lara Dutta springs a pleasant surprise. Known for glamorous roles uptil now, she handles the comic act extremely well. Also, she looks sensuous in several scenes. Sushmita Sen is wonderful, though she gets limited scope to prove her mettle. Sohail Khan's role is sketchy, hence it doesn't make an impact. Ranvir Shorey is excellent. Manoj Pahwa and Rajpal Yadav are amazing in their respective parts. Himani Shivpuri is alright. Rituparna Sengupta is hardly there. On the whole, Do Knot Disturb is a mass entertainer that keeps you entertained and smiling/laughing in most parts. At the box-office, this one lives up to the hype and expectations and that in turn should reflect very strongly in its business.
