Do Wine Rules Confuse You?
There are endless books explaining these rules, with the aim of ensuring that you drink wine correctly. Should you invest in such books? Could these offer a great way to learn the rules involved? There's no doubt that many such books contain an enormous amount of information. As such, they could certainly be helpful in terms of ensuring that you have an extensive knowledge of all the rules associated with choosing, buying and drinking wine. But you might like to consider whether such an exercise would really be a good use of your time. Some of us are inclined to think that life is really too short to waste it on such matters of trivia. The reality is that drinking and enjoying wine is not all about rules. It's not about having a detailed knowledge of particular grapes, countries and wine varieties. So what is it all about? The answer should really be obvious to you. Wine drinking is all about enjoyment. Quite frankly, if you're enjoying wine then you know that you're drinking it correctly. It doesn't really matter what other people say. There's very little value in memorising rules if you already enjoy your own approach to wine. Drinking wine is very much a personal experience. You've undoubtedly got your own preferences. These may differ considerably from those of so-called wine experts. Don't worry about these differences. Differences are frequently to be embraced and this is certainly the case when it comes to wine. It would be very dull if we all stored and chose wine in the same manner.
