Do You Experiment With Positioning Your Contextual Ads?
You may have read that title and realized that the thought had never even occurred to you before. You got your contextual advertising sorted out and you placed it on your site… never to be moved again. After all, you cannot move it in the same way that you can move a banner ad, for example.
But experimenting with how text links perform in different positions can really enhance the potential earnings you can make from them. It could be that you currently make $100 a month from having a contextual ad in a particular position. You may not think you can beat that, but how do you know if you don’t give it a try?
The best way to experiment is to keep note of how much you earn from that ad in that position for one whole calendar month. Make a note of what network the ad is from and note down what your earnings are at the end of the month. To do this, you will need to think about how you lay out the content on your page, since this is what the contextual ads will be tied up with.
Then as the next month starts, re-arrange the content in some way. For example, if you were using a two column template for your blog, try a three column one instead. If you get better results, you will know that the old template wasn’t so good after all.
Because of the way that contextual advertising works, you are moving the content rather than the ads themselves. But this could still be beneficial, as we have seen above. And you may also be able to choose from different types of contextual ads as well. One format may glean far better results than another, so be sure to experiment as much as you can to get the best return on your efforts.
