The next on the list of the types of servers is SMTP Proxy server. This is a built-in server, which is utilized when there is some other server present within a particular network for accepting the electronic mails.

The SMTP Proxy server is, normally, used where extended emailing and messaging server is not, actually, the final destination for the messages, but an additional component participating in the process. Unlike in-built server, the built-in proxy server does not have a local repository for the electronic mails being sent by a user, rather it behaves as a linking layer between a client and the other server on the network. Not only does it watch the emails sent by the clients, but the SMTP proxy server also modify a particular mail or even block it, if finds something wrong with its delivery. This built-in server cannot be used in Stand-alone mode, while it is fit to be used in other two operational mode, namely, Spam Filter as well as the Hybrid.
