Do You Really Need Video On Your Site To Be Competitive?

To answer the Question do you need video, let us revisit the past. Before technology caught up, silent movies were the only movies in town.

Early talking movies had many problems. The first question the nay sayers asked, "Who whould ever want to see a movie that talks?" Once the technology became available, it was riddled with many problems. Early talking movies had to be filmed mostly at night, because any passing truck noise could ruin a sound recording. In fact, microphones were so sensitive that even the sound of a few crickets could stop production of a whole set.

Many changes had to be made in the industry with the advent of sound. Before the revolution, movie audiences had often been loud and noisy while watching silent films. When talking technology became available, the theaters became quiet as people strained to hear every word.

Movie theaters had to be wired for sound, costing major studios, like Paramount and Fox, millions of dollars.
In spite of all the problems, technology marched on. Studios that resisted fell by the wayside and silent movies became obsolete.

That brings us to the Early Internet. Most of us remember the Internet fifteen years ago, most people thought the Internet was a fad and would never be used seriously for commercial enterprise. Audio was a problem. Video was unheard of. Text was the media of the day, which still is with many sites.

The technology of streaming audio became fast and inexpensive about six or seven years ago. More Progressive sites have some streaming audio today. Still there is resistance to change.

You Tube has brought video to the web, in a big, successful way. Up until recently, good quality, fast loading video for small sites has been a problem. A big problem was the technology to compress a file, so a video could start immediately online without losing the original quality level. A large screen player with Controls like a VCR (Stop, Play, Fast Forward, Rewind.)and a choice of multiple players so your site could look unique, were not available.

The biggest draw back that has kept Video from spreading faster, was the tech knowledge to set it up properly.

Today, all these problems have been overcome with an inexpensive software that makes video on any site a five minute job with no tech knowlege needed. As always, technology marches on. With great quality, easy set up and the ability to send
full video files in email, I believe you will see more full multi-media sites leading the market share in their chosen nitch. As with everything, those who resist will fall behind!
