Doctors Can Only Do So Much

It is amazing at how many people want someone else to be responsible for their health and well being so much so that they will visit a doctor's office and blindly follow any advice, expecting a miracle. No one could ever argue that doctors can do some pretty amazing health care stuff, but the hard fact is that no one is really responsible for keeping you healthy other than you.

It is important to realize that most serious health issues build up over time. They don't just begin on the day that you start to notice symptoms or head to the doctor's office. You can't believe that you can eat whatever you want without exercising or doing anything good for your body and think that your health will stay intact. It simply will not.

Running into the doctor's office screaming "fix me, doc!" has become something that is very commonplace and this is probably the place where medical malpractice stems from. When you look at the big picture many malpractice suits stem from a doctor's failure to make everything all better for the patient and this simply is not fair.

More individuals need to take responsibility for themselves. Collectively as a society we need to become more accountable for our own health and try to create situations that help us to sustain well-being. Dying is inevitable but how soon you die has a lot to do with how you care for your body. It is important to make sure that you take steps and do what you can to have a healthy body and mind.

We all known the benefits of eating well and exercising, but even these lifestyle modification have no guarantee that there will not be health issues, but exercising and eating well will have a positive impact on your overall health and well being. A doctor can only treat what is already existing and having symptoms. It is best to work in concert with the doctor to not only help change bad habits, but to also improve the body's normal functions. True health begins with you and your decisions. Doctors can simple offer suggestions, medical opinions, medications and surgery, usually after the damage is already done before you see them.

Your doctor is a great resource tool and a great place to get information on what is normal for your body function as well as pointing and encouraging you in the right direction with habits and changes to your daily routine that will improve your health. Too many patients want the doctor to make them all better, when in fact the doctor can only treat the damage that the individual has already done by practicing back habits and decisions. A medical doctor has a wealth of knowledge and experience that they will gladly share with you in addition to giving solid sound pointers to regain your health and stay healthy.
