Does Reverse Osmosis Really Make Water Safe To Drink?

Does reverse osmosis make water safe to drink is an increasingly common question these days as more people become aware of the potential problems these systems have.

They were first designed for the print and paper industries that needed large quantities of demineralised water, and were never intended for the domestic market. Drinking demineralised water can lead to health problems over time, and this is one of the main disadvantages of reverse osmosis.

The World Health Organization has recently stated that we should all drink water with the minerals in, like calcium and potassium. We absorb them better this way than from any other source.

The RO systems work by forcing water under pressure through a semi porous membrane which strips out the trace minerals but allows modern synthetic toxins like prescription drugs and some chlorine and lead, to come through.

So does reverse osmosis make water safe to drink? The answer is no, it doesn’t, despite what the salesman may say! Look at or ask for the performance data sheet to see exactly what they remove and you will see what I mean.

Even a removal rate of chlorine at 95% still leaves you will a lot of chlorine in your supply and you want to look for at least a 99% removal rate for all contaminants. This is another of the disadvantages of reverse osmosis that it still lets harmful toxins into your home.

The most effective systems on the market are multi-stage carbon filters, with ion exchange and sub micron filtering to remove 99% of all the bad stuff, leaving you with safe and pure water. They tend to cost less than half the price of the RO systems and leave in all those essential minerals.

I hope I have answered the question of does reverse osmosis make water safe to drink and if you really want the safest supply possible, and to have back your peace of mind, then follow these tips and protect yourself and your family from any future dangers.
