Does Your Squeeze Page Repel Visitors?
Considering the purpose of the landing page on your site is solely to capture the name of any website visitors you'll want to keep it plain and simple. Don't put much effort into getting too fancy here since most visitors will not appreciate it. Here are 5 simple points you'll want to address to insure your landing page is able to accomplish its purpose: FORMAT YOUR TEXT PROPERLY Maintain a narrow column in which you'll put all your text for the page. You don't want to have visitors having to scan the computer screen from side to side just to read your message. By 'centering' your text it makes it easier for any site visitor to easily scan. Create a table between 550 and 650 pixels wide with a cell padding of 9 or 10 pixels. This size should suffice to make the layout of the text visually appealing. EASY ON THE EYES Keep in mind that colors can be exhausting to the human eye. Focusing on various shades of colors puts a strain on the reader and if you don't believe that look at any newspaper. The print is almost ALWAYS dark with a very light background. In fact black and white is the safest and best way to go. You do not want to have your background color competing with the color of the text itself. KEEP COLOR OUT of IT Remember you're not trying to win any website design awards with your landing page. Your choice of fonts, colors, and sizes should be limited to create a consistent flow. You are trying to deliver a deliberate message to the reader and not dazzle them. Save the fancy stuff for other parts of your marketing strategy but make this page an easy and straight forward read. The object here is professionalism and NOT flamboyance! EMPHASIZE the TEXT The outside border of your landing page can be a different color then the background within the table you created for your text. This will help draw attention to the text inside the table and won't be an issue that causes eye strain for the reader. THE OPT-IN BOX Position your opt-in box where the reader can see it immediately upon landing on the page. This is a more subtle way of reminding you not to allow this page to become so lengthy that a site visitor has to scroll needlessly just to see the box itself. Focus on the box itself when building this page. This is where you're actually 'selling' the free giveaway which may not make you an immediate profit but will add a subscriber to your list. Your squeeze page should be short in length and to the point. It also should be easy on the eyes and formatted with this in mind. Besides an opt-in box offering a free giveaway the text on this page should be consistent in format displaying little if any graphics. The landing page is a key component of your overall marketing strategy. If this page is presented correctly both your sales and your list should grow accordingly.
