Dog Training Tip - Does Your Dog Take You Jogging Against Your Will?

Does your arm feel longer after you take your dog for a walk? Does your dog pull you down the street at high speed, with you screaming behind him to stop? Is he walking you?

If this sounds like you, then it is time to get back control. Training your dog to take nice walks is something we all want. It can also be dangerous for you and your dog, if he ignores your screams to stop and continues chasing a squirrel or other dog, with you still attached to the leash into the street!

Here is a great dog training tip: Next time you take your dog for a walk, start out walking normally, and just as he starts speeding ahead and ready to take you for a walk, holding the leash tight, suddenly change directions. Go suddenly left, or suddenly right, or stop and quickly turn around and go back. Then do it again.

Your dog will be confused, and once you do this a few times, he will have to watch you to try and figure out your next move. Keep doing this, and you will start to find that your dog will stay closer to you, because he is not sure what move you are going to make next, and that is what you want.. training your dog to watch your every move.

Do this at the start of every walk, and each and every time he starts to get ahead of you and pull the leash. When you change directions, don't drag him down the street, just a sudden quick snap of the leash as you change directions.

You will get looks and stares, as people wonder what you are doing, but training your dog to listen to you will let you enjoy your walks, as you become pack leader or Alpha, which puts you in charge, and you can get your arm back!.
