Domain name extension is the word that you read or type in accessing the internet. It is also the word that you are using in your e-mail account. Domain name extensions consist of a top-level domain and sometimes even a secondary-level domain.

The top-level domain name that is widely recognized in the net, are as follows:

Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) – this domain is commonly used in the such as; .COM that is commonly used by the search engine we are using in surfing the net. .ORG for organizations, .NET for networking and lastly .INFO for informational purposes.

Generic – Restricted Top-Level Domains – this is used by particular individuals with their eligibilities. These are .BIZ for business, .NAME for specific individual; and .PRO for professionals and specific entities.

Sponsored Top-Level Domains (sTLD) – it includes .AERO for air transports, .COOP for cooperatives, .EDU related to educational institutions, .GOV for government, .JOBS for hiring and employment purposes, .MIL for United States Military, .MOBI for mobile products and services, .MUSEUM for museums, .TEL for publish contact data; and .TRAVEL for traveling agencies and traveling purposes.

Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLD) – this is used to distinguish the domain’s origin or country. For example, if your business is located in the United Kingdom, then your domain name would be .UK. If you are in Australia, then it’s going to be .AU. This type contains the specific domain name for each specified country.

Reserved Top-Level Domains – this domain name is restricted to infrastructure, testing and is merely used by supporters of a specific organization.
